This course is designed to increase resilience in teens and young adults.

Why is resilience important?

Resilience may be the single most important protective factor an individual can develop. Researchers have found it to have the following benefits:

  • Increases success
  • Improves relationships
  • Better health
  • Reduced risk of undesirable outcomes including suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, high school dropout, depression and delinquency.
  • Reduce the negative impact of adverse events like the end of a romantic relationship, death of a loved one, loss of a job, and more) by reducing recovery time.
  • Reduce the effects of negative peer pressure and bullying

Resilience is composed of three learnable skills that affect every area of life. Participants will increase these skills and benefit from greater resilience in a fun learning environment.

This course is open to mature teens (age 13 and above) up to age 24. There is a separate program for adults (18 and above) geared strictly towards adults.

Two full days are devoted to answering student generated questions using skills taught in the course. Questions received from prior students have included hard topics such as how to stop using drugs or alcohol to ease their emotional pain, how to stop cutting themselves, what to do about suicidal thoughts, how to handle the pain of friends and/or romantic partners who have wronged them, forgiveness, anger control, and more. Students are provided with a way to submit questions anonymously, which increases participation from the sensitive and shy.

Teens can thrive (young adults, too). Are the ones you love thriving?

Resilience is not taught in schools despite research demonstrating its positive effects.

This is optional. Are you choosing this option for your child?

Despite popular belief, teens do not have to be moody and surly. If they are happy, they’re neither of these things. Frustration, anger, resentment, confusion and other emotional states that are far less than happy cause these behaviors. These emotional states negatively affect every area of life. They are indicators of stress. Stress causes negative physical, mental, and behavioral outcomes. The same skills that increase resilience reduce stress.

We would do anything to ensure our child has the best opportunities and the best chances of success. Research shows that even the best schools fail children who lack resilience–their lives do not reflect their full potential. This course provides your child with the skills necessary to make the most of every opportunity and increases the likelihood that your child will do so in an ethical way.
